Summary: Unlikely hero Maggie Amell attempts to rebuild the Grey Wardens and deal with continuing threats from the darkspawn, while trying to fit into a world that's a far cry from the tower. All this while the Chantry seems to wait around every corner, eager to remind her and Anders just what they think of mages who manage to escape Circle control.
In this chapter: Sometimes even Maggie has to admit she's not entirely right in the head. Like my confessing her desire for a murderous rampage.





So I realized half the reason I wasn't updating was because of how long chapters had gotten. Averaging 6 to 7k each meant they all took a LOT of time. What's worse is that, since I don't want too many things happening each chapter in terms of major plot events, would start to include more and more filler. I've been averaging about 3k a chapter for my other stories, and figured that was a decent length.

Another Little Art Dump...

So I was digging through my random crap folder (no I'm not kidding, that's REALLY what it's called), and I came across a few things that I didn't put in my last art dump post.  So I figured I'd go ahead and drop them in here along with the TOTALLY AWESOME commissions that I got from a friend.  Well actually, they were just sketches, because that's what she was offering;  $10 sketch commissions.  But I cleaned them up and added color to them.

EDIT: On a side note, this is the shortest story I've written since November 2008. After I was done writing this, I thought that Scraps and Pieces were about the same word length (about 1,000). Well I checked, and boy was I wrong. (Both Scraps and Pieces were over 4,000) So I went over my posted stories and realized the last thing I wrote that was remotely in that range, (and was still closer to 2,000 than 1,000) was November 2008. Well, I always knew I was long-winded....

DA2 Item Mods

Since scarylady linked to the cool armor for Fenris, I did some poking around to see what's new on the Nexus.

A lot of the available mods are intended to change the looks of the NPC's in ways that make Darkrose grumpy (lightening Isabela's skin tone; making Aveline's features less strong and distinctive). The lack of a toolset makes creating all new items like the fantastic Phoenix Armory and the Wings of Velvet robes difficult, but there are a few nice item mods out there:

Sunnie's item packs tweak the stats of existing objects in game, and most notably, adjust them so that they evolve as the character levels. Her modded evolving Staff of Parlathan is the only staff I used for Julian, my mage Hawke. I also like the idea of Aveline keeping her original sword and Wesley's shield through Act 1. The one caveat is that the evolving items can be a bit unbalancing, especially at early levels.

This mod is also quite useful: it replaces all of the dress-style mage robe models with the jacket/pants combo that doesn't scream "I AM A MAGE!" There do appear to be some issues, and it's definitely a work in progress, but the idea is a good one.

ETA: One of the big issues that caused me to uninstall this mod is that it changes ALL the robes for ALL characters--including NPC's. Karl in the Robes of the Notorious Pirate just doesn't work for me.

The Apostate's Wardrobe

This mod adds additional runes. I haven't actually used it, so I have no idea how it affects game balance, but it was done by a modder whose work I've liked in both Origins and DA2.
