Exactly what it says on the tin. DW users, if you have codes to spare and want to bequeath one unto a commenter here, reply and then contact them as needed. This way we can get a wait-list of sorts going.

Share the love!

::EDIT:: Nov 09

Dreamwidth is amazing (so is [personal profile] darkrose , for that matter, for making this possible) and has given the community its own promo code. What does this mean? No more wait-list, and scrambling for codes. If you want to join and need a Dreamwidth account, all you have to do is follow this link. Easy peasy!

Thanks to everyone who helped out on the waitlist and made it possible to get the comm off its feet in our early days. :D

I've gotten some questions from people who want clarification on the Three Golden Rules listed in the profile, so I'm making this post to provide assurance that you are, in fact, interpreting them correctly.

THE RULES:
1. No wanking.
2. Mark all NSFW content as such, warn, and place behind a cut.
3. Have fun.

Since the comm's open, I'm posting a oneshot that hasn't been shared outside of my personal journal (and then scurrying off to build a tags list). Feel free to post/rec fics of your own; I'm getting stage fright. XD

Title: Bees
Characters: f!Surana (Faolán), Alistair, and Sers Maron and Bryant
Rating: T
Word Count: 1,000
Summary: Faolán learns that there are some things better than being a bear. Several thousand things rolled into one huge, buzzing mass, in fact. (Bonus points if you get the reference.) Part of the 20 Reasons to Forget the Blight collection.

This night was getting worse and worse. )

...Bees. Now that would be interesting.

Well, since Lenna and Shimmy did it, I suppose I ought to as well.

Hello, my name is RCD-Anon.

Well, that's not really my name, of course. I am what is known as a sockpuppet. Some people here actually do know my real name, but for the most part, I'm trying to keep that super-sekrit.

Why? Well, see, a few months ago on the LJ kink-meme, a very inspired prompter put up a challenge I couldn't resist. Basically, it gave me the chance to write something that was at times so raunchy and perverse that I decided I would never associate it with my normal LJ handle, because that identity can be linked back to my actual RL persona.

At any rate, once sockpuppets became personae non gratis by virtue of an enforced-anonymity rule over at the LJ kink-meme, I decided it was time for me to move on and find another place to indulge my DAO obsession.

One of our lovely moderators here, [personal profile] twist_shimmy is my beta-reader and I'm really hoping we can make this a thriving community. I don't have anything to share with the community just yet, but stay tuned, starting in November the new and improved version of my kink novel will be starting and I will be posting here as well as my own journal and elsewhere.

Let's see, what else? I'm in my 30s, married w/kid, spend far, far too much time writing erotica, and I've been playing DAO for, oh, 7-8 months now?

My favorite major character is (unsurprisingly) Alistair, while my favorite minor character is Duncan (he's just so badass and pragmatic!)

My favorite origin is Human Noble, and no, not because I want to be a pretty, pretty princess, but because there's just so much tragedy and betrayal and potential for angst in there that I find it extremely compelling. Plus, I love characters who are political movers and shakers and human noble really lets me dig elbow-deep into the politics.

I suppose I'll go ahead and introduce myself, since it seems to be the thing to do. Especially since I've commented here and there on some of you people's works. So... HELLO THAR!

Well, if you can't tell by the shiny name by the avatar, my name is Ashley. I'm 28 years young, although most of the time I have the maturity level of a 14-year-old boy. Ha. I live in rural central Iowa with my husband and better half. We've been together almost nine years now, but have been married almost four. We have a 5 year old Mittelspitz named Archie, who's my little baby. I tell everyone I don't need kids, I have a dog. XD

I've been in the Dragon Age fandom for a few months now... I can't quite remember exactly how long. I fell in love with all of the characters, but hold a special place in my heart for Alistair :3 My top favorite origins are Human Noble and City Elf, although I have yet to delve into fics/art with my Tabris.

I've posted a bit of my work over at SiB, and if it's wanted, I most certainly would be willing to post it here as well! ^_^ I adore the community that I've found so far, and will certainly continue to add to it as much as I can. I haven't had much time lately, though; I'm hoping after I finish a few more projects I will.

Before Dragon Age came along, my PC gaming involved World of Warcraft. I don't play as much as I used to, but I still dabble here and there. I'm also a long-time Zelda fanatic, and most of my creative works involve said fandom. Fics, drawings, comics, and even cosplay are involved. I digress though.

So... YEAH. That's me in a nutshell! NICE TO MEET YOU ALL! I look forward to seeing what everyone contributes :)

On livejournal, I go by estaratshirai.  Here it's...estaratshirai.  Confusing, I know.  Of course, here on Dreamwidth I envisioned it as a journal for religious musings, which naturally isn't happening; and meanwhile, the place where my actual writing is archived is on lj under onemorealtmer.

ANYway.  Hi!  I'm 40, married with a 16yo son.  I first got into fanfic when our hostess [personal profile] twist_shimmy  posted an awkward phrase from an Oblivion fanfic to the lj comm weepingcock.  I replied, "...There's Oblivion fanfic!?" and both a friendship and a booming career of writing fanfic erotica were born.  I write Oblivion and Dragon Age.  Well, and fairy tales every so often.  It all serves to distract me from writing "real" works for money, which is fine, since my interest in doing nonfiction has dropped to almost nil and the learning curve for selling fiction versus nonfiction is too effortful for me to be bothered.  Thank the Maker my husband's got tenure.

Hello!

Now that we've got a bunch of wonderful recruits and a beautiful theme and banner set (thanks to the indefatigable
[personal profile] twist_shimmy ), it's about time we started including all of you in the process.

This post is a chance for you to help us up the awesomeness quotient of this community. You're welcome to give us any sort of feedback or make any suggestions you want, but here are some questions I'm going to throw out here for now:

1) Shimmy and I create the tags you'll be able to use here. Are there other tags you'd like to see in addition to the ones we've already chosen?

2) Do you like polls?

Do you like polls?
Yes, yes, a thousand times yes!
Hell no! I refuse to take part in this poll! ...Wait.
I have no opinion on polls whatsoever.
I just like to click on circles.
Having five answers is numerically superior to four. Prime numbers FTW!
Results

3) Do you have any ideas for a way to shorten our community name that don't make us look like deadbeats? It seems unlikely that "PoT" will make us simply look like gardening enthusiasts.

4) Do you have any interest in discussion posts? For example: "Who would win in a fight--Sir Laundry or Master Ignacio?" "What do you think of DA2's push to make the races more morphologically different?" (Thanks for the science, Shimmy)

5) Would providing FAQs on how to make icons and banners in Photoshop be helpful?

6) Once the community is large enough, do you think it would it be fun to have fanfiction prompts and challenges? (If enough artists are around, we could do these for fanart too).

7) Would you be interested in fic and art swaps?

Please feel free to let us know if you have any other comments/questions/suggestions about the community. This post is your best opportunity to do so, especially because it'll let us all discuss the issues together, so please take advantage of it :)

'Sup, yo.

Hi. -waves-
My name is Bef and I'm a chocoholic...
So, apparently I like bad jokes. -shrug-
I'm little_befu on livejournal, but I haven't really used that SN for anything since Jr. High, so a name change was more than due. It's Latin for "Beware the fool" by the by.  It's also my deviantArt SN.
I live in the Southern United States, so please excuse any of my odd aphorisms, metaphors, or euphemisms that involve livestock or made-up words.
I'm three and twenty. (Read: Why did we stop saying numbers like this? Is it b/c it's too awesome?)
I don't have kids, but I do have enough brothers and sisters to have a basketball team with subs...it would be the shittiest team ever, but a team nonetheless. I do have a lovely boyfriend. You should feel bad for him though. He often walks into the apartment to me with my butt in the air and arms at weird angles, because no one else will model being smote for me. Although, sometimes he's helpful and makes Alistair faces for me.
Well, okay, so a few more tidbits about Beelzebef:
  • I love Spaghetti Westerns and Samurai movies.
  • I draw comics, b/c I only like writing dialogue. XD (I'm seriously resisting to the urge to just draw an infograph for this whole thing.)
  • I look like a pudgy faced Jane Eyre according to my friend Mo.
  • ZOMG! Bones is my other fandom love. So when things go wrong I secretly blame The Gormogon.
  • Don't tell anyone in SiB, but dammit, I like Anders more than Alistair. -ducks-
  • I just realized that Thedas totally equals THE Dragon AgeS. -face palm- I feel dumb, but I also feel like someone else was being lazy, and that makes me feel loads better. :
I think that's enough. I'm done. Ta da! -hand waggle-

Here's a little tutorial on how we're going to handle fic and art requests and recommendations. By 'requests,' I don't mean requests for commissions or things of that nature. I mean a request for fanfiction or art recommendations from the rest of the community. A recommendation is what it sounds like: if you like a fic or a piece of art, recommend it to the community. Not only will this give us a lot of great fics to read and art to view, but it will also help promote the Dragon Age fandom in general.

Here is an example of a request:

Does anyone know of any good multi-chaptered M/MA/NC-17-rated fanfiction with an Alistair/f!Mahariel pairing? Other pairings are welcome as long as this is the main one. Drama is good but I prefer humor to be peppered in, as I think that this makes stories seem more realistic.

By the way, I would be more than happy to have that request fulfilled!

Here is an example of a recommendation:

Are you a fan of Sten? Are you open to the idea of being convinced to like Sten? Either way, I'd highly recommend
[personal profile] twist_shimmy 's "Strangers With Cookies." I really like it because she manages to portray Sten in a way that makes him an introspective, humorous, and relatable character. I didn't really like him before I read her fic, but now I feel like I understand him a lot better. Here is the fic information according to [personal profile] twist_shimmy 's journal:
Strangers With Cookies
Sten/f!Mahariel, Alistair/Leliana
Rating: M
Chapters: Eighteen + Epilogue
Complete? Y!
Summary: "The enemy of my enemy is my friend." Sten and Adhara, a Dalish Warden, have little in common but disdain for the human race. But for two people thrown into the midst of Fereldan politics, this becomes a basis for friendship. Whether or not their mutual respect of one another will be enough to keep them sane is anyone's guess....
A link to Strangers With Cookies can be found on twist_shimmy's LiveJournal page.

NOTE: If for any reason an artist or author requests that your recommendation be modified or removed, you must do so immediately. Though this is unlikely, we want to protect the rights and respect the wishes of these valued contributors to our fandom.

As always, please let me or twist_shimmy know if you have any questions/comments/suggestions/objections, etc.
darkrose: (dao: in death sacrifice)
[personal profile] darkrose
Hi. I'm [personal profile] darkrose on Dreamwidth, and [livejournal.com profile] darkrosetiger on LiveJournal. I've been on DW since the beta, and playing DA for eight months, and I'm thrilled to bits at the idea of an active DA presence over here.

I'm 40, female, and living in Northern California with my wife, [personal profile] telesilla, who plays DA, but doesn't write in the fandom....yet. We met seven years ago, on Fandom Wank when it was still on LJ. We got involved after she played Carrie-Ann Moss and Liam Neeson to my Jason Isaacs in the kinky celebrity RPG The Establishment on JournalFen. Those two facts tell you pretty much all you need to know about us. We have no children, for which you should all be grateful, but we do have two cats: Ogdred K. Weary and Alistair K. Theirin. (the K is for Kitteh).

In addition to DAO, which I'm currently running through with my F!Tabris for the third time, I'm currently playing City of Heroes/Villains, Aion, Sims 3, and Plants vs. Zombies. I played Baldur's Gate back in the day; it was my first online fandom. (I started writing fic to explain why my ass-kicking elven fighter would give Anomen the time of day.) My active fandoms in addition to Dragon Age at the moment are Stargate: Atlantis, Leverage, and RPF for various actors. Most of my fic is NSFW, and usually involves some variety of kink and exploration of sexual power dynamics.

My favorite NPC's are Alistair, Zevran, Nathaniel and yes, Loghain. (What? I was a Snape fan, too.) My favorite origin is the City Elf, because as a gamer of color, that's the closest I'm likely to come to seeing my experience reflected in a fantasy RPG. I have a lot of issues with the Bioware developers and writers, but I will give them credit for mostly getting it right when writing ethnic minority characters in the Dragon Age world.

My fic can be found on my DW under the fic: dragon age origins tag, or at [archiveofourown.org profile] darkrose on AO3. I have serious ADD, which means I've got about six WIP fics in this fandom and only three completed. The finished ones are part of the Mad World story arc, also known as Whore!Alistair; I've also got a series going with my Tabris, and a Loghain/Female Mage Caron in Awakening.

I play Dragon Age on PC, and I've got a whole slew of active mods, including the Adoption mod. At some point, I'm going to play a mage Cousland with the Ser Gilmore mod.

I also have an unhealthy attachment to '70's and '80's music.
sorchar: Sparkly brain (Default)
[personal profile] sorchar
So, since all the cool kids are doing it, I will, too. Name's Sorcha - I'm sorchar here and sorcha_r at LJ. Well, I'm sorchar there too, but that journal got hacked and I lost several years of posts, and had already started the new journal when I got that one back.

I started out playing Dragon Age on xBox a couple months ago, and when I got my spiffy new laptop I switched to PC, both for the mods (gay!Alistair FTW!) and so I don't have to wait for my son to get done with his turn on the xBox to be able to play. (This was about three weeks ago and I'm incredibly bitter that if I'd waited till next week, I could have gotten the Ultimate Edition with Awakenings and all the DLC. They Platinumed me!)

Anyway...I've been in fandom since the mid-90s under various names, been a fangirl since I was about 13, and been a geek all my life. Haven't written any solo fic in a long time, but I wrote a ton of stuff back when I was into wrestling. I've also written Harry Potter, Dracula: The Series, Deep Space Nine, X-Files, La Femme Nikita, Constantine (movieverse), Doctor Who, Torchwood, Bible (aka Jesus fandom), and, um...others I'm sure I'm forgetting.

Anyway. I live in Oregon with my husband and my teenage son. I work for a non-profit that aids people in poverty, doing IT support, HR support, fiscal support, and pretty much whatever else that needs doing that doesn't fall into anyone else's job description. Oh, and my car looks like a toaster.

Pleased to meet you all!

Hiya

Ooo, do we all get to play. Maybe we can have little badges with our names on them, huh? Or folded bits of card for our desks like in infant or junior school when you get a new teacher.

Ok, I'll stop now.

Hiya, I'm Karen and I'm comparatively new to writing fictions. Everything I've ever read or watched, every game I've ever played has triggered ideas in my mind, but I tried writing about 25 years ago and gave up in disgust after one page because my dialogue was so goddawful.

Somewhere in the last 25 years of not practicing, I improved; so when Dragon Age got so far into my imagination that I couldn't resist any longer, I found that, actually, my writing's no longer so bad that it made me want to ritually sacrifice it at midnight and bury the remains on unhallowed ground.

I'm 45, married and I live in England. No kids; I cheerfully had myself removed from the genepool at the earliest opportunity. I've been a live-role-player for a good 15 years or more (hence the icon, that's me at an event), so character immersion comes quite naturally now.

I like to write complicated politics and character growth. These last couple of weeks, I've discovered a previously unrealised ability to write porn, provided it's not vanilla. At some point I hope to merge all three into one fic series. It'll have to be set in Antiva, naturally.

I don't have anything new to post to this comm right now; it's happened a bit fast for that, but I'm happy to post my porns that have only been on the kink meme if there are people who'd like to read them, and am also happy to link my fic chapters here, as they come out, if wanted.

gods, i'm so bad at these introduction things; i hate talking about myself.

uh... let's see...

i've been playing d&d for 20 years - since i was 10. it all started because of tolkien; i read the entire lord of the rings trilogy the summer before. i think that was what began my fangirl obsession, because i fell in love with meriadoc. yup. i'm a halfling lover. that's my confession for the day.

i've played a lot of rpg video games over the years... king's quest, eye of the beholder, that xanth rpg video game; more recently, neverwinter nights, fallout 3, and dragon age, of course.

i picked it up as soon as it came out. pre-order. oh, folks, finn mahariel. i fell for alistair *hard*. so lame. my husband was like, "dude, should i leave you two alone?" >.< second time, i go for withiel tabris. i'm thinking, ok, don't want to go through all the heckling i got over alistair again, so i'll do a different one. i'll just shag zevran and get the achievement, it's obviously not the more serious of the two relationships. (bwahahaha *laughs at self*) sorry, alistair. i loveded you, but now i'm zev's girl. although... i... think i might've had a quick fumble with anders in a closet at one point. i admit nothing. >.>

anyway, during the time when i was all stupid over alistair and squeeing over the game, i was talking to some gamer chick friend of a friend, and she says, "hey, do you know that there's a whole thread on livejournal about alistair?" so i came to swooping_is_bad around my 30th birthday in february.

oh, baby, what i read. hahahahahahaaa

we should all blush. and then grin. c'mon, you know i'm right. ;)

before coming here, my dabbling in fanfic had been a dark secret, and was confined to a few hastily dashed missives of crazed adoration for severus snape. posting sex scenes to the internet? holy crap. i was shaking in my boots. but, haha, everyone else was doing it. XD

all my stuff is archived on lj and at ff.net.

[personal profile] zillah975
Introductions all 'round, then? I'm zillah975 -- Rachel -- and I've been playing DA for, um, three months? I only have the PS3 version, because my laptops don't have sufficient graphics cards for the PC version and so far I've been able to talk myself out of buying a shiny new gaming desktop just to play one game that I already have on a console. Even though I really want some of those mods. I just...don't want them quite triple-digits worth.

I've finished Origins once and Awakenings once, and a few of the add-ons, and am now slowly working my way through all the origin stories. This has suddenly proved more difficult because between the origin stories and the downloadable stuff I've hit the character limit on my PS3. Oooops. So far I have enjoyed them all! but my favorite player character is my first one, a female City Elf rogue.

I've created no fanworks for this stuff at all, but am noodling around with some ideas. I'm also considering writing a Dragon Age apocalypse story for [livejournal.com profile] apocabigbang. One thing that makes me a wee bit anxious about writing fic for this game, though, is the sheer volume of canon. I figure the tie-in novels probably aren't required canon, but I fear I'll accidentally write something that's contradicted by some bit of game canon that I just never got to in the game. Because man, there is a lot of game here.

Anyway! Mostly what I'm writing in these days is The Losers (*waves little banner for Clay/Roque* which is why I now always mistype "rogue" as roque" and have to re-type it), but if you're curious, you can find almost all my fic at my DW or AO3 fic accounts, [personal profile] zillah_fic / [archiveofourown.org profile] zillah975. (There's a lot of adults-only stuff there, as I write a fair amount of pr0n, but there's a fair bit of gen there, too, and some that falls sort of in between.)

So um. Hello! :)
