We've all said it...

I found this little gem linked on the DA facebook page, and am posting it here for [personal profile] darkrose , who has ranted at me on this subject once or twice.

Safe for work and takes about 10 seconds to read.  Enjoy!

They never really updated beyond saying they were "looking into" providing an update to the existing toolset to make it compatible with DA2, as well as the data files, and that was over the summer.

It's frustrating since I know how many plot-damaging lines were broken, triggering wrong, etc in Origins that got corrected by Dialogue Tweaks, Zev Dialogue Fix, etc. I really can't help but wonder what's hiding deep in the files of DA2.

Bioware's already got a rep for including sex and romance in their games; I doubt that's it.

The real reason, I suspect, is a combination of things. DAO was in development for almost 11 years, during which time they had plenty of time to do a toolset, with the assumption that fans would create mods like they'd done with every other Bioware RPG.

Then EA bought them. From EA's perspective, allowing users to create their own content is a bad thing, because if people can make their own content, why pay for things like the item pack DLCs? This is something that's been a huge issue with the Sims; Sims 3 is post-EA, and it's much more difficult to mod, and every patch breaks half of the available custom content. Meanwhile, EA is pushing their content from the Sims store.

The third reason is that DA2's development was rushed. and right now, if they do any more with it, it's going to be bug fixes, especially since a lot of modders have done wonders just with what they have. So it's not a priority.

This makes me a grumpy panda. I've still only managed to get Nathaniel quests and correct dialogue once, and I've had Nate alive and loyal to me in every playthrough of Awakenings. It's really annoying! Nate is the only carry over character that I think they did justice to (In fact I like DA:2 Nate more than the original) and he's always missing from my games *cries*
