IF THIS POST MESSES UP ONE MORE TIME I AM GOING TO DIE.

Right now I have a mage friendmancing Fenris. I designed Vera for Anders, but it turns out Vera doesn't like mages, so... uh. We restarted Act 2 and now have a healthy, healthy relationship with the hottie who hates everything she is just as much as she does.

Woo!

But what surprises me is how different a friendmance is with a mage than it is with a non-mage. Fenris likes Vera more than he liked Alyse until halfway through Act 3, and yet their relationship has been anything but fluffy. Observe the Act 2 seduction between Fenris and my rogue.

So imagine my surprise when the post-bitter pill conversation segues directly into sex during my mage playthrough. With Alyse, he left and then came back later. With Vera, well... I guess it's not surprising that they nearly kill one another.

Now I'm sitting here wondering what Vera did to trigger rivalmance sex while friends with Fenris. Was it because they had a pissing match at the end of the fight with Hadriana? I mean, she did lose it when he went all "I'm glad Hadriana's dead! She should be dead! Just like all the other mages!"
"Hey, remember who you're talking to!"
"Oh, I haven't forgotten," he snarled. "What does magic touch that it doesn't spoil?"
*cue Vera's devastated!face*
*Fenris storms off*



At first I thought it was a mage thing, butestaratshirai  says her mage didn't get this. I love that I have a Hawke that brings out the MURDERIN' INSTINCTS in her boy.


On a lighter note, here's a video capture of a kiss and wallslam that didn't... render quite right. I won't call this spoilery since it's a clip with relatively little dialogue and everyone knows you can kiss Fenris.

OMG, I love you for the commentary. My mage got no kiss at all; Fenris just left after our conversation. I figure it's because he was less than 50% on rivalmance. And btw, I'm disappointed that DA2 has no sex cutscenes like DAO. They were tasteful and a nice addition to the romance. But dam, Fenris can kiss like no other!

You know, I'm pretty sure I'm a minority on this, but I actually like these scenes better. Will I be running out and installing a nude mod the second it appears so my chars are no longer lounging about in their bathing suits post-sex? Totally.

But the DAO cutscenes, while making for some truly awesome screenshots, always made me giggle when they were happening real-time. It was their facial expressions.

Mira always looked like she was contemplating painting the ceiling of her tent, regardless of whether Zev was going down on her or fucking her up the ass, or Alistair was apparently having trouble with the whole "first time" thing...or, with BSC, if he was missing her mouth entirely. It didn't help that her O face was exactly the same as her "OH SHIT DUNCAN JUST SHANKED JORY!" face.

Tesni always looked slightly displeased. Faolan always looks evil. Evie looked stoned out of her goddamn mind.

Reid? Apparently Morrigan and Zev were boring.

Whatever Vera did, my mage did it too - I hadn't done either romance with Fenris before, so I didn't realise it was the rivalmance sex scene even though we were friends. I wonder if it's a bug or a trigger? My Hawke is a red-response-picking asshat, so I could've done any number of aggressive thing to trigger it.

My Hawke is totally inappropriate, but hardly ever picks red responses unless Fenris is telling her SHE SHOULD DIE LIKE ALL THE OTHER MAGES. Augh.

The glowy wall-slam scene isn't specific to the rivalmance. It can happen for a friend or rival romance, and it just depends on if you've done his "Questioning Beliefs" conversation before "A Bitter Pill". There's only a couple of very slight differences between the two versions--in the rivalmance Fenris keeps his head turned away from Hawke, and a few of the dialogue lines are altered (video).

Interesting! I'm pretty sure Alyse chose "don't go," as well, but he left anyway. But like I said, they weren't as far up the friendscale, so I bet that's why.

This outcome is far more appropriate for Fenris and Vera, though. Augh.

Lilian was stupidly happy when he did that to her. Of course, she'd also just told him that he might not wear chains but that he was a slave still.

The video that didn't render right brings fond memories of my mage friendmance with Fenris. I got the rivalmance scene, too, no idea why because I was gungho about him killing Hadriana, but it didn't render properly, so the whole makeout sequence after Hawke pushes him into the wall has Fenris staring slightly off to the side like he's not a willing participant. It made me sad. D:

Yeah, mine did that too. It was a little creepy, but Inappropriate!Hawke didn't notice.

I totally didn't get that when I friendmanced Fenris with Julian. Probably just as well, because the second Fenris had him against the wall, Julian (aka BIG OL' BOTTOM BOY) would have jizzed in his pajama pants.
