The Amells

Maybe spoilerish for DA2 so behind a cut we go.

So... just curious if anyone has figured this out yet. How does the Amell name figure into the Solana Amell's story? A cousin perhaps? Just a coinkydink? Maybe it's a common name in the area, like Smith. :)

Yes, magic runs in the Amell family and the child was given to the Fereldan Circle to keep it secret. It's a cousin.

The Amell family codex says:

And then poor Revka had the child. Magical talent, running in one of Kirkwall's most prominent families? They whisked the child away to the Circle, and the Amells simply had no luck after that.

Most of the boards seem to be arguing that the Amell mage was that cousin, but that would make the warden at least a few years older than Hawke, which doesn't jive with the timeline for me (Unless, Carver is just a whiny teenager, which would explain a few things...)

I got a flippant remark where Hawke says something along the lines that fate has a sense of humour, because the daughter of said Amell cousin went and became the Hero of Ferelden.

And here I wanted Ceridwen to go and meet her family in my fanfic.

D'oh, should read. "families. [...] They"

I also got some indication somewhere that Revka had more than one child taken away to the Circle. (Something Leandra says, actually.)

It makes zero sense that Revka would have been in Kirkwall when her child/children were discovered to be mages...because otherwise they'd be in the Gallows, not the Circle Tower, yes? Kirkwall doesn't seem to be in the habit of sending its mages to Ferelden.

Unless the Amells sent the child/ren to Ferelden to keep it a secret. That's my guess.

Or Revka had one child taken to the Gallows, and her family sent her to Ferelden just in case the rest of the kids turned out to be mages.

My question is why, if Malcolm Hawke was Ferelden, he was in the Kirkwall Circle?

I think the codex says that Carver and Bethany are 18 at the time of Ostagar.

Carver and Bethany are both 18 years old during the prologue at the point where either he or Bethany can die. Leandra says something like "eighteen years of loving and feeding and raising" at some point. So... yeah, at the beginning, he's definitely a whiny teenager.

OT but I love "coinkydink". It's a favourite word of mine. Drives people batty when used in otherwise rational conversation :P
