Steam pulls Dragon Age II from their store

BSN topic, "Steam yanks Dragon Age 2?"

It appears that the fact that you can purchase the Legacy DLC through the game itself violates Steam's newly-rewritten terms of service, so EA has pulled the game - or Valve dropped it, I can't tell, and neither Valve or EA is speaking up.

Owners of the Steam version of the game (like myself) can still purchase and install Legacy, just follow the directions on the BioWare site for the game content you have. The game will still run as normal, as far as I can tell - I played Legacy fine the day it launched, though I did not attempt to play DA2 yesterday nor today.

I, for one, am upset about this - I purchased my game from Steam to make it easier on myself (and to have less CDs in this house for my almost-two-year-old to throw around) and now I get to live in fear of needing to reinstall the game. Yay.

EDIT: EA has explained their side.

EA's David DeMartini:
Unfortunately, Steam has adopted a set of restrictive terms of service which limit how developers interact with customers to sell downloadable content. No other download service has adopted this practice. Consequently some of our games have been removed by Steam.

We hope to work out an agreement to keep our games on Steam.

I had to reinstall my DA:2 and it was still in my library. It just affects people who want to buy it. If you already have it, its not affected.

You're welcome. :-)

I was concerned too but my husband made me realize how all hell would break loose if all Steam Users were forced to purchase DA:2 again. LOL

I'm hoping they eventually reach an agreement but a part of me is coming to realize we will likely have to download DA:3 from EA's Origin.
