Oh lordy, as soon as I learned he was an ALL BLACK horse I mentally yelled "...fuck." Shading an all black horse is almost as bad as trying to shade an all white one. SO DIFFICULT. I actually didn't use black as a base, which helped. I used a really dark charcoal gray color. It worked out quite nicely, and I'm very pleased with his coloring ^_^
And Alistair IS pretty isn't he? Man that threw me for a loop, because in his sketch/lineart phase, he looked awful. I kept telling myself "most of his detailing is in color... REMEMBER THAT", and I was pleased when I finally believed myself lol.
Tesni's horse reminds me of my pony I had when I was younger, although he was a Leopard Appaloosa, not a dapple. SPECKLES ARE FUN!
