Ah, the joys of shaky fingers, unsteady hands and drawing on the wrong layer... Still, I bring you the Varel section of my WIP fic-pimping banner!

I'm not that happy about the way his eyes turned out (instead of glaring at Nathaniel's elbow, he's smiling at it, Shimmy, god knows why, LOL). Still, I'm pretty proud about how I got his armor done - and it was a bitch to do, lemme tell ya, especially when I realized I got his pauldron wrong in the sketch.

Ooooooo....texture! That pauldron is ah--wait for it--mazing!
Have you seen these brushes? They make skin/stubble textures without all the stippling, eye-crossing, and swearing to most major deities.

Thank god for Google - I searched for tutorials and made my own leather and metal textures. They came out pretty kickass, personally. :) The chainmail I did by hand, though, that was a bitch and a half.

I don't have Photoshop - I'm using Gimphoto, a Windows port of Linux GIMP, which is a close enough clone of Photoshop (and free!). I've no idea if those brushes will work for me. :/

That armor is awesome. You did your own textures? The chainmail was by hand?! Duuuuuude. *aweface*

Thanks! Really, it was just me following the instructions on the tutorials, LOL, but, yeah, I think next time I try to do chainmail on the computer rather than on paper - fiddling with the layers (and not knowing WTF I was doing) was time consuming.

I bet Anders drew it there. Or Oghren. XD But I think Varel would more disapprove (-10) than smile, LOL.

Technicolor wonders, indeed. pauldron is fab, and the individual links on the chainmail...? very nice detail. that must've taken forever!

The pauldron was a bitch - I realized I had reversed it in the sketch, and had to correct it. ><; The chainmail was tedious, but not all that difficult, just repetitive.
