I was the same. I've had friends who were slashers in the same fandoms as me for decades, but I was always "Er, I don't get it?"

Then DAO comes along and I'm all. over. it.

Surprisingly, it was Alistair, not Zevran, who drew me into the DAO slash.

With Zev, it is just so much a gimme that I really didn't even think of it as slash.

Of course, I have a convoluted definition of "slash" in my head where slash is actual defined as a pairing which doesn't fall in line with the character's canonical sexual orientation. So I would tend to think of a canonically gay character going het as slash as well.

With Alistair, he's never explicitly stated as being straight, but the fact that you can't do a same-sex romance with him without a mod kinda makes his heterosexuality fairly canonical. And yet it doesn't seem OOC to slash him at all. Which I have done. With Zevran. And Fergus. And even implied with Duncan (whom I also have no problems getting slashy with, despite the fact that you can only proposition him as a female PC.)

Alistair for me too.

I've only recently wrapped my head around Zevran. I quite liked him, but I only had two chars romance him, both male, one of whom died without ever actually doing more than kiss (one of the things that made me respect Zev more was that, if you refuse to go to bed with him because you're not ready yet, you get a + not a - and he'll still fall in love with you).

I didn't really get to grips with his char though until I started to write him, and then I found things about him that were genuinely sexy, rather than blatant.

I think what really caught my attention with Zevran was the fact that you could break up with him for someone else, and as long as you were honest and respectful about it, you could get an approval boost.

At that point, I decided I needed to know more about the guy.

Zev is turning out to be quite different in Elysium from RCD, and it's fun to watch that unfold.

Yeah, my T&S Zev is utterly different from SS Zev.

And, have you seen the fic that 1smut_princess has been posting these last few days? She is delving into The Dark Place That Is Zev's Head (brave girl) and with another utterly different Zev.

Gotta love how complex this guy is, when we can all write him so differently, without anyone feeling that any of them are wrong.

Weeeeeell I liked Zev right off the bat because he reminded me of this other bisexual lecherous blond I had knocking around in my head for the last decade or so.

In fact, Tannusen would have been the Warden of Immovable Object, except I didn't feel like I could differentiate them enough yet at the time.

As for slash (which I call anything fandom that's m/m and to a lesser degree f/f -- though that also gets called femslash so I dunno --) ...well...

I mentioned Tannusen's been kicking around my brain for a good decade or so, right? ;)

...Honestly, writing porn fic isn't much different than RPing it. I just have to write both people involved. XD

Clearly, I need a Zev icon

I actually didn't like Zev at first, because I was annoyed that Bioware finally gave us a bisexual male character, and he has to not only stress that he really prefers women, but on the surface, he's the total stereotype of the "anything that moves" bi guy.

When I actually started playing him, though, I discovered OMGLAYERS! He's even more of a woobie than Alistair in many ways; he just hides it all under the mask and then I just want to go, OH, ZEV! It really breaks my heart that I haven't been able to get the poly mods to work, because Mira, at least, would be perfectly fine if she didn't have to choose between her two men.

(And that Alistair would totally sleep with Zev if Mira smiled at him and said, "Please? For me?" In my head, he points out that he slept with *Morrigan* because Mira asked him too.)

I have polygamey loaded and what I find is that for most chars, when no-one is hassling you, it tends to sort itself out before the end of the game, and one char steps forward as totally right for you.

Not all, but most.

When I didn't have it loaded, I was often being forced to make a decision before I had any chance of making the right one.

Although, having said that, Aedan was pre-polygamey, and if he hadn't have been, he probably would have been perfectly happy shagging the women and hence no Aedan/Zev and no SS.

Sometimes being forced is good.
