Eh, I don't think it would particularly shock the swoopers, if that's what you're getting at. There are people who post slash there on occasion. It's a damned large community, and it would surprise me if there weren't some who would enjoy the pic. And if they didn't, their most likely reaction would be to ignore it politely. I doubt that slash would get their knickers in a twist.

To the OP - nice work. I totally buy that Alistair is about 3 beers from attempting something exactly like this in the game (despite the fact that you can't romance him as a dude - which makes no sense to me). If anyone could convince him to hop borders, it would be Zevran.

Yeah but if I'm involved someone is going to rage. And I don't say that because of previous experiences in that comm so much as previous experiences everywhere.

I and everyone who's known me for a while refer to it as "the freak vibe". If there can be rage, it will be. And I'll be found somewhere in the middle of the blast zone scratching my head going "what did I break now?" XD

And I'm not even someone who slashes up every male character I see. (S&S doesn't count. It's the k!meme.)

Yeah, I'm not one who sees slash everywhere myself and I tend to miss homoerotic subtext quite often, but someone mentioned on the Dragon Age lj comm last side quest saturday that their Aedan had more chemistry with Alistair than with any of the other love interests and was about a bottle of wine away from trying out the other team. It was sort of a hilarious conversation where everyone who chimed in was like "OMG that's so true!" So I had to fire up my abandoned dude Cousland game to see if she was right, and omg she totally was. Bioware should have just rolled with it and made him a love interest for both genders.

But then again, this really shouldn't be much of a shock, since he was written by David Gaider who wrote the most unintentional slashiest bromance ever with Maric and Loghain in The Stolen Throne. (I am sort of baffled by the lack of Loghain/Maric slash fic in fandom, actually.) And since Alistair is so similar to Maric, it makes sense.

But then again, this really shouldn't be much of a shock, since he was written by David Gaider who wrote the most unintentional slashiest bromance ever with Maric and Loghain in The Stolen Throne.

I swear I've read Harry/Draco and McShep that was less slashy than TST.

I noticed when I played around with the Equal Love mod that very little of the dialogue between Alistair and a male warden has to change. There are also the little things like Morrigan accusing Alistair of being jealous that she's coming between him and "his Warden", the "hopping borders" conversation, and Alistair's noticable interest in fashion. (I always expect "Have you seen the uniforms?" to be followed by, "Because girlfriend, they are *fabulous*!")

You know, I could swear that I read a post over on BSN where DG mentioned that they'd wanted to include a male romance option for Alistair, complete with alternate dialog and cutscenes, but that they had to cut it for lack of time or some such.

I wish I had a reference, but this was quite some time ago, and the BSN forum search feature is pretty crappy. (I don't know how many times I've wished they had a dev post tracker like the WoW forums do.)

At any rate, I'm a firm believer in (and a huge fan of) border-hopping Alistair, and I don't even think beer is a required component. Traxits planted the seeds and scarylady nurtured them into a towering OTP. :)

I had to Google OTP. There were a lot of choices. One time password? nono, that can't be right...

I got there in the end.

You know, it really doesn't help that the two female love interests in The Stolen Throne are so bland in comparison to Loghain and Maric. But still, that really doesn't account for the fact that Loghain and Maric have so much more chemistry in their dialogue in their dialogue, the whole sequence when they're traveling through the woods where Loghain and Maric bicker the whole freaking time (so much UST, geeze), and the part where Maric runs up to Loghain shirtless, kneels on the ground and begs him to stay (I mean, really now). I'm pretty convinced that Loghain was so grumpy the whole dang book because he didn't get to make out with Maric. I just wanted to be like "Come on, guys. Put poor Rowan out of her misery and come clean about your lust for each other."

I love Dave Gaider. Seriously. But he can't write female characters to save his life. The Katriel POV sections are actually kind of painful in their badness.

I did like it, and I think I'd have liked it more with a different PC; that particular Amell wasn't one of my better ones. I want to try it with an M!Mahariel.

The one weird part is after the first tent scene when Alistair says that he's never slept with a woman before. My Amell was all, "....did you miss the whole dick part?" Also, the party banter doesn't change, which is a little creepy.

Yes, TST reads more like a Yaoi novel than most yaoi novels. I really, really would be shocked to learn that Loghain and Maric weren't an item that the entire court was snickering about all the freaking time. Like, "Oh, their kids are engaged, are they? Wonder who's living out their repressed feelings!"

Oh man, a short story about all of the court gossip about the two of them, especially during the engagement, would make an awesomely hilarious short story. Loghain would be so pissed. And indignant! And lying to himself!

Don't tempt me! Don't! You're cruel! As now I really want to write that! With Rowan all like "yeah, I know what they're up to..." and Maric being like "look, buddy, we can just admit what happened..." and Loghain all "No!!!!" Throw in a very confused Celia, and I think we'd have a winner! (I mean, NO ONE would know who was hooking up with who any more...)

Alistair is such a three-beer queer. It's almost painful.

One of the things on my list is the modern-day AU where Alistair has to go to a gay leather bar as part of his frat initiation....and he runs into his dad's best friend, Loghain.

Because Loghain in full leathers doing Daddy/boy play with twink!Alistair really, really needs to happen.

My favorite scene in that movie is the one where Kinsey and his wife are visiting the doctor after their first disastrous attempt at sex, and the doctor gets out the ruler so she can show how big he is.

Laura Linney's expression is brilliant, as is the fact that if gossip about Mr. Neeson can be credited, that was pretty close to accurate.

There were so many brilliant acting bits in that movie.

But then, I've always sworn I'd watch a box of Cheerios for three hours if Liam Neeson was on it.

Which is, I think, the reason I can slash him so easily when for years and years, I've watched other fandoms slash canonically straight characters and just shook my head in bewilderment.
