Come on in, the water's fine...
...or so it seems to me, after lurking a bit for a few days. So I've signed on to People of Thedas as well. A few words about me...
I've been writing fanfic for over a decade now, and have only recently become addicted to Dragon Age: Origins - so naturally I've had to try my hand at writing for that as well. I now have a growing collection of DA fics over at fanfiction.net (my profile, oooh aaah) and several ideas for more floating around in my head.
I just wrapped up a long fiction there, and my current main projects at the moment are a series of young!Alistair vs DICK!Eamon stories, and an M-rated story delving into Zevran's past in Antiva.
The Alistair/Eamon stories are of varying length, and seem to be getting longer as I reach each one. They're mainly spun off from specific Alistair-isms from the game.
The Zevran story is focusing on his relationship with Taliesen (and eventually Rinna) but also touching on his training. It's kind of dark and twisted and some parts may require keeping brain bleach handy. It's my first M-rated story so I'm still at the stage where I'm finding writing the smutty bits descriptively requires me to go hide my head under a pillow at intervals. Most of my writing over the past 6 years was for a forum with an emasculated PG-13 rating, so while I have written sexy bits before, including some involving dark, twisted and nasty characters, I've always had to settle for dancing around, hinting at, alluding to, talking suggestively about, cutting off short, or otherwise leaving it mainly up to the readers' imaginations just what is going on. The change to more explicit descriptions is proving... interesting.
In my writing I tend to the verbose, I'll go on writing benders and have insane update rates for days at a time. I overuse ellipses, m-dashes, and parenthical commas, and have to do seek-and-divide on run-on sentences in pretty much anything longer then ten words. I love having fun with language, finding just the right exact word with the perfect connotation, making the occasional bad pun, or silly word play. I am driven up the wall by the misuse of the word "smirk". I believe in using the Oxford comma! I'm sometimes pedantic and I have a head stuffed full of useless knowledge and Google is my friend for anything not already stuffed away. I tend not to be potty-mouthed... in part because it makes me laugh my ass off when I'm playing with friends online, get annoyed enough to actually swear, and someone gasps out "OMG! She must really be angry... she swore!" Mainly because I believe that the more you use a good pithy swear word, the less pith it's left with.
Thanks for having me here - please be gentle! :)
