Where I hark from originally in fandom, it was common for rambly thoughts to be chronicled (in hopefully not too rambly a manner) in AN's. If there's a content warning in my stuff, and in the fandom I came from originally, it was generally listed between the disclaimer/summary area and the AN or in the summary.... It's a habit I've had for like... um.. :thinks: a decade. For alot of us this isn't our first fandom, and we all bring over habits from prior ones. In the Wolverine and Rogue fandom I started off in, we rarely had anything other than "WARNING - SQUICK" for most of our stuff that might need one, and was usually in the summary itself, which was the standard for it there.
For me, I try and keep my stuff labeled fairly clearly up at the subject header - Fic: Insert Name and Chapter Number/Total Chapters - will always indicate if it's a fic or somethin' else. That's just my method of indexing it.
