I feel bad about Cullen too; it's a tragedy that someone who was a genuinely nice guy, and was strong enough to resist Uldred's blood mages, wasn't also able to hold onto his original views.
But to an extent I'm working with canon here - albeit canon based on the 'destroy the Circle' ending. In that ending it says that Cullen ultimately became KC and the mages had a pretty rough time of it under his command.
I've just run with the assumption that, in a 'save the Circle' ending, he doesn't necessarily heal from his traumas.
I love Zev more and more as I write, and as I read the writings of others who understand him far better than I. I didn't have a lot of time for him previously.
