I don't think Duncan is all that concerned with how things REFLECT on him.
He's dying. He knows he's dying. That makes him the perfect candidate to kill the archdemon. If he doesn't find the archdemon and kill it, and soon, he's going to lose the opportunity and another Warden is going to have to sacrifice his or her life instead to get the job done.
The amount of desperation Duncan must be feeling is immense. I don't think it's a point of pride, I think he hears the clock ticking and knows time is running out and he has to get the job done. Nothing. Else. Matters.
Killing Jory isn't a matter of pride, or even preserving secrets. It's a matter of "If you're not going to help me, get the fuck out of my way, I need to get this business done."
