Um.... I'm Not An Artist?
:scuttles in and looks around then drops this on the table and scampers off crying out "I'm not an artist!":

:peeks from behind corner at people: Seriously, I blow at art. But hopefully this isn't too grotesque. It'll be part of my banner for A Murder of Crows. I can't seem to get the line to not be pixel-y, and then hafta go in with a partially transparent brush to soften/shade the lines up.... So, lemme know whatcha think.... please remember I totally blow at this stuff....

And I have a tablet, just a cheap one, but it works okay. I'm not really used to it. And since I'm crap at freehand, the above is what resulted. If I had traced, I can usually make decent stuff, but this? Eh.... I used to be good with paint and pen long and long ago in hands on mediums.

And... green eyes? Did the palette you used not have an amber shade available?
Everything else is a damn sight better than anything I would expect from someone who is screaming that they aren't an artist. :)

Basically I'm thinkin' in those terms. I really probably shouldn't think about "the good ol'days" otherwise I get sad panda face and wish I still had an easel, a pa latte, 50 colors of paint, all those lovely brushes, and the hand control to still use them.
This workin' on the tablet thing reaaally makes me wish for the cling of canvas or paper. It's all smooth n'stuff, and so the 'pen' tip sorta skitters along way too easily, and I can't rotate the tablet and have it come out drawin' the way I used to do it... hmm... maybe if I turned the laptop when I turn the tablet?
MZ up there was done free hand other than to grab 'lines' for where brows, eye sockets, nose, mouth, and chin should go from a stock photo. Just a series of horizontal slashes. And then lookin' at someone's work that I admire to see that I was doin' the eyes okay... I'm still not pleased with it.
But, I'm happier with the Lahar end of the pickie, but that one is semi-traced off of a pickie of Wynona Ryder when she was in Dracula.
And in art class, we had a saying "There are no prodigies - only hard work" repetition is what gained us our skills, but now my issue is I can't hold a pen, so.... yeah. I've got a sock wrapped around my tablet's pen so I can grip it without hollarin' ten minutes in.
